One Mind at a Time's Gumuz Scholarship Project

The Gumuz people are a cultural group in Northwestern Ethiopia that has traditionally been politically and economically marginalized in the region. The Gumuz population of Tumet is fairly large, though only about fifty of the 550 students at Tumet General Primary School are Gumuz.

This deficit is due mainly to the economic barriers facing Gumuz students in and around Tumet, because many Gumuz families cannot afford to buy their children the necessary supplies for school: such as pens, notebooks, and uniforms.

To help alleviate the financial burdens preventing Gumuz students from attending school, One Mind at a Time partnered with Tumet General in order to provide 50 additional Gumuz students with all the supplies listed above, for free. One Mind at a Time hopes to increase the number of enrolled Gumuz students through helping fill the need of supplies for students who would otherwise not be attending school.
